Waimate
accommodation
Base yourself here while you explore Waimate.
There’s a mix of motels, cabins, camping spots and rural stays, whether you’re here for a night or a few days.
Waimate is also an NZMCA-friendly town, with facilities that make it easy for motorhome travellers to stop and stay. You can park up and get around town easily on foot.
If you’ve got time, head inland to the Waitaki Valley where you can camp beside the lakes. It’s popular over summer for swimming, fishing and boating.
Accommodation options
Take a look at some of the district’s commercial accommodation options below.
For home stays and short-term rentals, try Airbnb or search Waimate accommodation online.
Nest Tree Houses
Snuggle in style under the stars in your very own unique tree house perched high amongst the branches overlooking the dramatic contours of the majestic Hakataramea Valley. Soak in the luxury of your romantic getaway.
Mt Nimrod Pods
Set into the Hunters Hills, Mt Nimrod Pods is a private glamping spot for two with big views, native bush and a proper sense of getting away. Think wood-fired hot tub, open fire, stars overhead and birdsong in the morning - camping, but without roughing it.
Parimanui Hut
Tucked beneath limestone cliffs on a working farm, Parimanui Hut is a private off-grid stay with big views from the Southern Alps to the Pacific on a clear day. Getting there is part of it - a 4WD transfer or short walk in - and once you’re there, it’s all outdoor showers, a wood-fired hot tub and time to slow right down.
The Matchbox
The Matchbox is elevated glamping, set 200m up in the hills above Waimate with wide views from the Southern Alps to the Pacific. Compact, well designed and private, it sleeps four and comes with a hot tub, open deck and plenty of space to switch off.
Motorhome friendly
We’re a motorhome friendly district - and that’s official.
The New Zealand Motor Caravan Association has approved the whole district under the motorhome-friendly scheme.
There is a public dump facility at 26 Studholme Street, Waimate.
Kelceys Bush, Knottingley Park & St Andrews Domain also have dump stations.
The NZMCA also have a camp in Waimate that is exclusive for their members.
