Held at Victoria Park in Waimate on the fourth Saturday in January each year, the Waimate Caledonian Games have been part of the district’s summer calendar for more than 145 years.

The programme features more than 200 events, including cycling, athletics, speed skating, bagpiping, Highland dancing, road running, gumboot throwing and the caber toss.

Admission is free, and you don’t have to be a spectator. Turn up on the day and enter selected events – although some may require slightly more athletic ability than others.
